Job Summary

In collaboration with University of Utah College of Health Dean and the Director of Advancement, the Associate Director of Alumni Engagement ( ADAE ) is a dynamic leader who creates and implements the strategic direction of a comprehensive alumni and constituent engagement program. Develops, coordinates, promotes, maintains, and evaluates programs, services, and special events sponsored by the College of Health Advancement, support of College of Health alumni, , faculty, and students in partnership with College of Health and Health Sciences (UHealth) Advancement. Initiates and supports innovative, strategic engagement initiatives. Responsible for productive and collaborative relationships across the College of Health and University of Utah campus system and with alumni and invested constituents across the region and nation.

The ADAE reports to the Director of Advancement for the College of Health.

Responsibilities

  1. In collaboration with the Director of Advancement, directs vision and strategy for alumni association communications, alumni and student programs, and events. Creates, oversees, and implements the strategy for the College of Health. Evaluates effectiveness of plan.

  2. In concert with the College of Health Advancement Team, creates, implements, and evaluates a strategic communication plan for alumni and constituents.

  3. Promotes the vision, mission, goals, and core values of the College of Health.

  4. Provides strategic direction, communication and alignment of Alumni Board and board committees to promote continued involvement and support of University alumni and students.

  5. Works with the members of the College of Health Advancement team to ensure a strong and life-long affiliation with the University and College of Health program areas through active identification,engagement and stewardship of alumni, donors and invested constituents.

  6. Conducts discovery and identification visits with alumni and constituents and seamlessly refers to College of Health Advancement team.

  7. Executes alumni focused communications and campaigns to raise philanthropic funds for U Giving Day and College of Health program areas.

  8. Collaborates with University of Utah Alumni Office and U Health Advancement staff to incorporate University-wide best practices. Works closely with University of Utah Alumni Office to plan an execute collaborative events and programs such as football tailgates and Forever Utah.

  9. Develops and supervises the implementation of outreach programs to engage alumni and other constituents as program participants to ensure a continued investment with the University.

  10. Supervises planning, executes, and attends special College of Health events and community events.

  11. Executes and evaluates communications, outreach programs, special and community events, alumni volunteer trainings, and partnership programs with University of Utah Alumni Office.

  12. Represents the organization at various university, community, and/or business meetings; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.

  13. Maintains effective collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.

  14. Ensures policies and risk management are properly followed.

Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.

Must have regular and reliable transportation for local travel and be willing to travel when necessary.

Frequent local travel expected. Travel beyond the local area may be required.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience (One year of education is equivalent to two years of experience).

  • Four years of related experience.

Preferences

  • Experience in alumni relations with a higher education academic institution preferred.

  • Experience in strategic planning and execution, board development, program evaluation, events management, volunteer coordination, managing a team, supervising staff, budgeting,and strategic communications also preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate, and steward meaningful relationships with donors. Management experience, demonstrated interpersonal skills, background knowledge of fundraising best practices, alumni relations, copywriting, editing, event planning, and interviewing/reporting experience are highly favored.

  • Superlative interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization, across a diverse range of educational and social backgrounds and to demonstrate honest respect for each individual.

  • A broad understanding of multi-faceted campaign planning, implementation and management.

  • Experience in grant or proposal writing, public speaking, a background working with print and/or electronic media, and an understanding of university fundraising practices preferred.

  • Knowledge of corporate and foundation fundraising and gift planning vehicles.

  • Knowledge of physician engagement/grateful patient programs.
