SCL Health Discharge Lounge Licensed Practical Nurse in Denver, Colorado

Job Description:The LPN, under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or other specified health care professional, participates in patient care commensurate to Scope of Practice.

The Discharge Lounge is part of the emergency department where patients that are being discharged home from either the emergency department or inpatient units can wait for their rides. Some patients will already have rides established, and the nurse will be with them up until they leave. This helps patients to get up and out of their room and allows a bed to free up within either the emergency department or inpatient units. The LPN could have anywhere from 2-8 patients at a time who are waiting for their ride home. Some responsibilities include setting up a Lyft or Medicaid Cab for the patient, removing IV's and helping a patient ambulate to the bathroom.

Scope

1.Performs basic nursing care to patients by following established standards andprocedures. 2. May perform specific nursing care as it relates to specialty of the practice. 3. Collects patient data such as vital signs; notes how the patient looks and acts, or responds to stimuli, and reports this information accordingly. 4. Prepares and administers injections, performs routine tests, treats wounds, and changes bandages. 5. Prepares patient records and files using established medical record forms/automated systems and documentation practices. 6. Administers medications within scope of license, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. 7. Participates in the implementation and evaluation of patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations. 8. Monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. 9. Conveys information to patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions. 10. Participates in teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes. 11. Administers medications, IV therapy, blood draws and laboratory testing and resulting. 12. Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards. 13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing program required Current/valid Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse from the state licensing boardis required Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) is required If applicable - Must have additional specialty certifications May need IV certification

Preferred

One (1) year experience in a clinic or acute hospital nursing setting preferred One (1) year Specialty clinic experience preferred

Physical Requirements:Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
