Baylor Scott & White Health Biostatistician 3 in Dallas, Texas

JOB SUMMARY

The Biostatistician 3 provides statistical help and mentorship for research projects and other Baylor Scott & White initiatives. This role runs collaborations with clinical and non-clinical investigators, as well as additional research or operational staff members on large scale/complex projects by taking charge in designing and conducting appropriate statistical scrutiny and interpreting the results both written and orally. Educational lectures and consultations on research design and scrutiny may also be provided, as requested, in this role. The Biostatistician 3 is expected to take ownership of projects, mentor entry level staff, maintain current knowledge of new developments in statistics, and continue to grow professionally. All job duties are to be completed in a reactive and professional manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Works autonomously and drives collaborations with investigators, project managers and other team members on data and statistical aspects of assigned projects.

  • Mentor entry-level biostatisticians and new investigators on appropriate research design and methods.

  • Adheres to study design, statistical investigation plans and sample size determination for standard, intermediate and advanced-level study protocols.

  • Prepares analytic datasets for studies of all sizes and/or works autonomously with a data analyst for data preparation.

  • Conducts advanced statistical analyses and regularly researches and applies new methods when needed.

  • Produces statistical reports containing summary tables, graphs and study results, as appropriate.

  • Assists with dissemination of study findings by helping prepare conference posters and presentations, and by contributing to manuscript drafts and addressing reviewer comments.

  • Contributes to the study design, statistical testing plan and sample size justification for large grant proposals.

  • Attends meetings regularly and heads up technical discussions.

  • Conducts oneself in a professional manner, follows best practices for implementing and conducting project activities, and mentors new staff on best practices.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Advanced knowledge of statistical concepts, methodologies, practice and procedures with the ability to identify and apply appropriate techniques based on a project’s design and aims.

  • Ability to research and apply less common statistical techniques when needed.

  • Ability to develop investigation plans and perform sample size calculations for complex research proposals, including large grant applications.

  • Proficiency in SAS and/or statistical programming languages (e.g. R, STATA, Python).

  • Ability to provide mentorship for entry-level staff and new research investigators.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with evidence of scholarly activity including peer-reviewed research publications.

  • Ability to autonomously work on multiple projects and prioritize tasks.

  • Ability to drive collaborations with transdisciplinary teams including clinical and non-clinical investigators as well as research staff members.
