Lecturer in Japanese, Department of East Asian Languages, Literatures and Cultures

The Department of East Asian Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Virginia invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Japanese with an anticipated start date of August 10, 2024. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position with the possibility of continuing employment after an initial three-year appointment.

Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English and at least a master’s level degree in a relevant field. Experience in teaching students at all levels is strongly preferred. Knowledge of current trends in language teaching methodologies and familiarity with effective uses of technologies in language instruction are expected, as is a commitment to department service. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) teaching three courses per semester, contributing to the development of the Japanese program on Grounds and abroad, and active involvement in departmental service and student life.
