Job Description Summary
The Staff Engineer in Thermal Systems Design is responsible for managing one or more specific Technology Programs and having responsibility for the execution of the Thermal System Design & Component Heat Transfer objectives associated with a module or component of fielded products, NPI (new product introduction) programs or technology demonstrators. They shall demonstrate depth and breadth of knowledge required in aviation gas turbine Thermal Systems Design & Component Heat Transfer. This role will report to the sub-section manager of the Thermal Systems Design sub-section in ATO eventually.

Domain knowledge
Developing specialized knowledge within aviation gas turbine thermal systems design (TSD) and component heat transfer (CHT).
Serves as best practice/quality resource.
Has awareness of latest technical developments in TSD & CHT.
Contributes towards strategy and ensures delivery in TSD & CHT.
Business expertise
Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how TSD & CHT discipline integrate with other disciplines.
Has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
Problem Solving
Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in TSD and CHT technology and engineering.
Takes new perspective on existing solutions.
Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.
Uses multiple internal and external sources outside of TSD & CHT to arrive at decisions.

Manages a small to medium team of lead professionals as well as others.

Required Qualifications
PhD / MTech / MS in Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering
6-10 years of relevant experience on thermal systems design/analyses and component heat transfer in gas turbine domain
Demonstrated ability to lead engineering programs through established project management skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Desired Qualifications
Strong numerical simulation experience – CAD/UG or similar and 1D/2D/3D modeling tools for thermal system design and analysis
Exposure to Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Turbomachines, Secondary Flow Design
Design, analysis, and testing experience in turbo machinery
Exposure to aircraft engine architecture and design process
Strong mentoring and coaching expertise and success in collaborating across the business functions and global teams
